Backup & Disaster Recovery
SoftSol implements and monitors a 3-2-1 backup strategy for your critical data and systems. Backups are designed, scheduled, tested, and watched — because a backup that has never been tested and is never monitored is not a backup.
The 3-2-1 principle
3 copies of your data
The original data plus at least two backups. If one copy is compromised or fails, two others remain accessible.
2 different media types
Backups stored on different types of storage — for example, a local NAS and external hard disks — so a single hardware failure cannot affect all copies.
1 copy offsite
At least one copy stored away from your premises. Protects against fire, theft, flood, or any physical incident affecting your site.
What's included
- •Image backup — full system images captured on a schedule: weekly delta, monthly full, and daily incremental. Restoring a server means restoring everything, not just files.
- •File-level backup — daily backups as standard, with 4-hourly backups on critical systems where data changes frequently and recovery point objectives are tight.
- •Offsite sync — external disks are regularly swapped and taken offsite, ensuring a physical copy of your data exists away from your premises at all times.
- •Real-time job monitoring — every backup job is monitored. A failed or missed job triggers an immediate alert to SoftSol — not a weekly report after the damage is done.
Recovery
- •Defined recovery time objectives — how quickly can you be back up? SoftSol agrees target recovery times with you and designs the backup architecture to meet them.
- •Tested restores — backup integrity is periodically verified by performing actual restores. A backup that has never been restored has never been proven to work.
- •Full system or granular file recovery — recover an entire server image after a failure, or recover a single accidentally deleted file. Both scenarios are supported.
Why monitoring matters
- •Backup jobs fail silently — a full disk, a changed credential, or a network issue can cause every backup to fail for weeks without anyone knowing.
- •By the time a restore is needed, it is too late to discover the backups weren't running. SoftSol monitors every job and alerts before failures become disasters.
- •Backup monitoring is included in SoftSol's managed service — not an optional add-on. Every client's backup jobs are watched continuously.
